Return to India and face probe in sexual abuse case, Kumaraswamy appeals to Prajwal Revanna

Prajwal Revanna left the country on April 27 after explicit videos of the MP were shared through pen drives and online platforms. An arrest warrant was issued against him on May 18 after he failed to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the cases against him.

Kumaraswamy accused Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar of using the videos to politically finish off Deve Gowda’s family. “I would have not let him (Prajwal) contest polls if I knew,” he said, adding that he was also not aware of the MPs’ plans to leave the country.

Labelling Shivakumar as ‘CD Shivu’, Kumaraswamy alleged that the Congress leader was targeting his family because he had exposed several illegalities committed by him. “Why did you (Shivakumar) distribute the videos? Was it to provide justice for families of victims or was it to push them to the streets?” Kumaraswamy asked. He demanded that Shivakumar be booked for abetment to crime, concealing the crime and violating the oath of office.

About an FIR registered against Prajwal and his father H D Revanna, a JD(S) MLA, at the Holenarsipur police station, Kumaraswamy asked whether Director General and Inspector General of Police Alok Mohan was “taking revenge” on Deve Gowda family. “Since I did not make him commissioner when I was CM for 16 months… is he taking revenge on our family? The complaint was typed at his office. The letter typed in English was sent to Holenarsipur,” he said.
