A physical education teacher at a private school in Bengaluru was booked by the city police on Tuesday for allegedly impregnating a woman, with whom he was in a live-in relationship, after promising to marry her.

The woman stated in her complaint that after her pregnancy was confirmed last week, the accused allegedly fled from his residence on September 20 along with some of her belongings and the pregnancy report.

The police registered the case after the victim petitioned the Karnataka State Women’s Commission on Monday, seeking action against the man for cheating her.

According to a police officer, the First Information Report (FIR) was registered under Section 29 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita — sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means — following directions from the Commission.

“They were in a live-in relationship after the woman got divorced. Recently, they talked about marriage, and he allegedly did not agree to marry. He, along with his parents, left their rented house at Gottigere on September 20, after which the woman filed a complaint,” the officer said.

The woman had earlier alleged that her partner had “thousands of explicit videos” of his relationship with other women. However, the police said that no videos were submitted to back her allegations.

In her statement, the victim said that she got acquainted with the teacher after her separation from her husband. “He was the physical education teacher at the school my daughter was studying at. We were residing together, and he had promised to marry me. When I told them that we should wed through a registered marriage, he delayed repeatedly, saying that he would do so after consulting his parents,” she said.

Meanwhile, the man released a video on Wednesday saying that he had left home with his parents to deal with a land issue and that the woman was also aware of it. “I don’t know why she has done so. I will return to Bengaluru soon and give more information about it,” he said. He added that he had no intention to cheat her. “I want to marry and lead a life with her,” he said.

The police are investigating the case.
