Days after a video of an elderly man allegedly groping women in a Bengaluru mall went viral, the police said that they have identified the accused but he has fled from his residence.

“We have found that he was a headmaster in Bengaluru and retired eight months ago. When we checked his house, we found that he had locked up the house and left,” a senior police officer said.

On Sunday, a viral video on social media purportedly showed an elderly man groping women in a mall in Goplalapura. After an employee with the mall filed a police complaint on Monday, the police lodged a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, invoking charges of outraging the modesty of a woman, indulging in obscene acts and songs etc., among others.

A person followed the accused in the mall and filmed his actions on his mobile phone as proof. The police said they identified the accused based on CCTV footage.
