The thirteenth edition of the Bangalore Literature Festival (BLF), one of the year’s most awaited events, will be held in the city on December 14-15. Each year, the festival showcases various aspects of literature and culture from across the country and the world, and this year will be no different.

Speaking to The Indian Express on the many firsts that the BLF is bringing to the table, festival director Shinie Antony said: “Two Nobel laureates are going to be here: Venki Ramakrishnan and Abhijit Banerjee. Kiran Desai, a Booker Prize winner, will also be here for the first time. There will be science and story, poetry and song, writers from everywhere… Singer Harpreet has a session called ‘Ranjha Ranjha’, Malayalam actor Parvathy Thiruvothu will talk about her craft, while Ila Arun and L Subramaniam will tell their stories.”

The ambassadors of Australia, Spain, and the Dominican Republic will also be present for the festival, while LGBT perspectives will be highlighted by the panel Queer Caravan. Fans of historical writing will also be glad to hear about the attendance of figures like Ramachandra Guha, William Dalrymple, Anita Anand, and Rana Safvi.

A series of events will also be organised for younger audiences. Aside from this, the event’s flagship Atta Galatta-Bangalore Literature Festival Book Prizes will be awarded across nine categories, including the annual award for Literary Achievement in Kannada. In fact, many events will focus on Kannada language and literature, while one will be on oral epics in the Tulu language.

Shuttle buses will be available from the event venue at the Lalit Ashok Hotel to the BR Ambedkar/Vidhana Soudha Metro station. This service will be free of charge at ten-minute intervals throughout the day. A paid parking facility will also be available at Prestige Trade Towers.
