Sensex climbs 260 pts, Nifty settles at 19,811; HDFC, Reliance and ITC lead gains

Domestic equities climbed higher on Tuesday lifted by HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries and ITC. BSE benchmark Sensex jumped 261.16 points, or 0.39 per cent to 66,428.09, while broader NSE Nifty50 gained 79.75 points, or 0.4 per cent to 19,811.50.

HDFC Bank was among the top gainers today after the company’s consolidated net profit jumped 50 per cent to Rs 16,811 crore for the September quarter, its first quarterly earnings announcement after merging parent HDFC with itself.

BPCL, PowerGrid, Coal India, SBI Life, HDFC Life, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Auto, Tech Mahindra, ITC, Bajaj Finserv, LTI Mindtree, NTPC, and Dr Reddy were the top gainers today. On the flip side, Tata Motors, L&T, UPL, IndusInd Bank, TCS, ONGC, JSW Steel, Tata Consumer, Divis Lab, and M&M were the top drags.

All broader market indices closed green, barring India Vix, which slipped into negative territory. Nifty Smallcap 50 jumped 1.06 per cent, Nifty Microcap 250 gained 1.05 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 100 jumped 0.88 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 250 rose 0.67 per cent, and Nifty Midsmallcap gained 0.52 per cent.

Sectorally, only the consumer durables index closed in red. Nifty Oil & Gas jumped 0.72 per cent, Nifty Financial Services 25/50 jumped 0.70 per cent, Nifty Financial Services jumped 0.65 per cent, and Nifty FMCG climbed 0.50 per cent.
