The JCB Prize for Literature, one of the most coveted fiction awards of India, has announced its jury for the 7th edition: writer Jerry Pinto (chair), filmmaker Shaunak Sen, art critic Deepthi Sasidharan, translator Tridip Suhrud, and artist Aqui Thami.

The longlist will be announced in September, shortlist in October, and winner in November. The winner will get Rs 25 lakh, and the translator Rs 10 lakh if the book is a translation.

“Honoured to be asked to chair the jury of the JCB Prize which has now become a significant part of the literary calendar in India. What could be better than discussing books with a group of interesting people for the better part of a year?” said Pinto in a press note.

“In its seventh year, the prize once again seeks to discover books that are a true representation of what India is reading today. The jury for this year is multi-faceted and brings spirited energy and commitment to awarding exceptional writing and magnificent stories,” said Mita Kapur, literary director, JCB Prize.

Last year’s prize was won by Perumal Murugan’s Fire Bird (Rs 499, Penguin), translated from Tamil by Janani Kannan. 2022’s prize was won by The Paradise of Food (Rs 699, Juggernaut), translated from Urdu by Baran Farooqi.
