Stand-up comedian and actor Karthik Kumar has responded to claims made by his ex-wife, singer Suchitra, in a video shared on Instagram. Titled ‘For all the click baities‘, Karthik asserted that if he were homosexual, as alleged by Suchitra, he would embrace it proudly. He positioned himself as an ally, emphasising that no one should feel ashamed of their sexuality.
He said, “If I am a homosexual, no? I would not be ashamed of being homosexual. I would be very very proud to be any kind of sexual in the gigantic and glorious spectrum of sexuality that exists out there. I would not be ashamed. I would be proud. I would join a pride rally in my city, which I anyway will. All kinds of sexualities join the pride rally and show your support. There is no shame anymore. There’s just pride. Be proud.”
Although the video wasn’t explicitly a response to Suchitra’s interview, Karthik Kumar’s followers grasped the message. Karthik avoided addressing Suchitra’s interview directly, maintaining a cheerful demeanor throughout the video. Many followers praised the comedian for his support of the LGBTQA+ community, while some critics urged to keep sexuality private.
The video was also shared by actor Amrutha Srinivasan, Karthik Kumar’s wife, whose name surfaced in Suchitra’s recent controversial interview.
Suchitra, who faded from the public eye after the ‘Suchi leaks’ controversy, recently spoke extensively to a Tamil YouTube channel, Kumudham. In the interview, she made unconfirmed accusations against Karthik Kumar, Dhanush, and Aishwarya Rajinikanth. She also claimed that Amurtha had made a mistake by marrying Karthik. No one has responded to her claims till now.
A popular playback singer and radio jockey, Suchi has been MIA since the scandal. Her most recent appearance was on Bigg Boss Tamil Season 4, where she failed to make a significant impact.
On the other hand, Karthik Kumar recently produced and performed a stand-up special titled Aansplaining, which was met with mixed reviews.
