Actor Sara Ali Khan admitted that she was swayed in the aftermath of her early success, but is now making attempts to reconnect with audiences as she did in the first couple of years of her career. Sara, the daughter of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, made her debut with an acclaimed performance in the film Kedarnath, and followed it up with the blockbuster Simmba.

But she then appeared in the back-to-back critical duds Love Aaj Kal and Coolie No 1. While Sara has often spoken about how unimpressed she is with her performance in Love Aaj Kal, she hasn’t thrown Coolie No 1 under the bus in quite the same way. Although, in a new interview with India Today, she called 2019 ‘the year of mistakes’.

She said, “Definitely, there have been hiccups in my career early on, and I think that what’s really happened now is that I’ve decided to forgive myself for it. I was very harsh on myself for that, which was also necessary, but now it’s the time to move on.”

She continued, “I want to cater to an image of Sara, I want to explore, understand, and allow Sara to grow. That’s a big mistake I made in 2019, in general. I call it the year of mistakes in my own head, and now publicly. I just made one mistake after the other. I was talking too loud, I was behaving boistrous, attention-seeking, and it came from a place that I don’t fully understand. I started thinking that people like the bindaas girl, so she became so bindaas it became almost annoying, and it translated even on screen. I’m aware of that now.”

Up next, Sara will be seen in the mystery thriller Gaslight, and after that, in Laxman Utekar new film. She also has the period drama Ae Watan Mere Watan lined up.
