The dating rumours of Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon and Telugu star Prabhas went so far that the former had to release a statement to debunk the speculation. She wrote on Instagram about the reports of her relationship status being “absolutely baseless”. She also shared that it was all started in jest by her Bhediya co-star Varun Dhawan.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sanon had revealed that it all started during the promotions of the 2022 film Bhediya. Since Dhawan was ‘bored’ answering the same questions repeatedly, he told Sanon that he will now start a rumour about her having someone in her life.
She said, “Varun Dhawan bahut bore ho chukka tha wahapar, interviews dete dete. (Varun Dhawan was bored giving interviews) We were answering the same thing in every interview. And Varun was once like, ‘Kriti, I’m gonna spread a rumour about you – Mai bass bolunga tere life mein koi hai (I will just say that you have someone in your life).”
Dhawan hinted at Kriti Sanon and Prabhas’ romance on the sets of Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa. He told Karan Johar that Kriti’s ‘heart belongs to someone else’ and that the person ‘is shooting with Deepika Padukone in Hyderabad’. At the time, Prabhas was shooting for Project K in Hyderabad with Deepika.
Dhawan’s statement went viral after which Sanon had to release a statement saying, “Its neither Pyaar, nor PR. our Bhediya just went a little too wild on a reality show. And his fun banter lead to some Howl-arious rumours. Before some portal announces my wedding date-let me burst your bubble. The rumours are ABSOLUTELY baseless!”
Sanon also had to explain to Prabhas why Dhawan said what he said, In an earlier interview with BBC, Kriti Sanon had shared, “When Varun said that, I felt really bad—I felt like I had to tell Prabhas. I picked up the phone and told him about what Varun had said. He said, ‘But why?’ I said I don’t know. Prabhas asked why did he say that? So I said, ‘I don’t know, Varun’s mad…’”
Prabhas was rather confused and asked again why Varun had said that, and Kriti hastily answered that Varun is a friend, and not to take it seriously.
Meanwhile, Kriti Sanon will next be seen in Adipurush along with Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan. The film is slated hit the theaters on June 16, 2023.
