The Aishwarya Rai, Akshaye Khanna and Anil Kapoor-starrer Taal recently completed 25 years of release, and the film’s team got together to celebrate the milestone at an event in Mumbai. At the event, Anil shared that he was quite nervous before shooting the climax scene of the film, where his character Vikrant tells Aishwarya’s character Mansi to be with Akshaye’s Manav. This happens moments before Vikrant and Mansi are supposed to tie the knot and is supposed to show a big change in Vikrant as he lets go of his love.
Talking at the event, organised by Radio Nasha, Anil recalled that director Subhash Ghai would often give him lines at the last moment, and he knew that this scene was going to be a big challenge. He shared that he was so “anxious” before the scene that he first decided to not show up at all. He even called actor Padmini Kolhapure to perform reiki on him so he could calm down. “I said I am not going to come on the set,” said Anil.
Anil then shared that he called Subhash the previous night and said that he won’t show up as Subhash was yet to give him the climax scene. “He knows me so well. He said, ‘Okay don’t come, I’ll wait anyway’. So in the morning, I woke up and I told my wife, ‘I am not going. It’s a very long scene and he will give it at the last moment and I want to do my best’. Then it was 7 am… 8 am… I called Padmini Kolhapure to perform reiki on me. I was so stressed, so anxious and nervous. She came, she did reiki on me,” he recalled.
Anil then laughed and said that he was worried that Subhash might give the scene to Akshaye, or flip it in favour of Aishwarya, so he ultimately decided to go. “I thought scene change karke kahin Akshaye Khanna ko na de de,” he laughed. Anil recalled that when he reached the set, Subhash was relaxed and shooting the other bits. “I reached at around 12:30-1 pm. He was relaxed. He knew I was going to come. He looked at me and said ‘Aa gaya? Chalo lunch karte hain, fir take karte hain (You’re here? Let’s have lunch and then let’s shoot.)’ And we finished the scene in two hours.”
The event was also attended by AR Rahman, Shiamak Davar, Udit Narayan, who were all a part of the crew. Taal is re-releasing in cinemas on September 27.
