Actor Vijay Deverakonda is one of the most sought-after actors in Telugu film industry, with most of his films being blockbusters. But things were not always luxurious for him financially as he grew up in a simple middle-class Telugu family. The actor shared that he was determined to change his family’s standard of living so that his parents could live comfortably.

In an interview with Galatta Plus, the actor, who will next be seen in Family Star, said that he comes from a close-knit family where everyone functions from a place of safety and leads a secure lifestyle. It is something that Vijay wanted to change and his resolve became stronger when one day his father had to travel in a bus in peak Hyderabad summers.

Vijay shared, “There was a day, when I was doing my undergrad, and I was staying at my aunt’s house because my college was closer. So it was a Sunday and my dad had come to meet me. There is an area called Dilsukhnagar, it’s a very busy, middle-class community area.”

The actor, who has given blockbusters like Arjun Reddy, Geetha Govindam continued, “I went to the bus stop to send him back. It was a time when AC buses had just come in and I wanted to send him in an AC bus because it was summers. So we waited for half an hour. I just remember the feeling of ‘wait’. We waited for the bus and it came but it was jam-packed and I knew that my dad had to stand at the edge if he took that bus. So we let that go and we waited for a regular bus.”

The actor said that seeing his father traveling in a bus made him want earn more money.

“I remember seeing that bus go and thinking that I never wanted to let my dad sit in a bus again. I wanted to buy him a car. I didn’t know how you can get this car, or what you have to do to make that kind of money. I remember wanting to change my family’s standard, I want them to be comfortable, I want to be comfortable,” Vijay said.

The actor has earlier revealed that his father also wanted to become an actor but he couldn’t make it. So when Vijay decided to follow his dreams, his family tried to discourage him, fearing that he will repeat his father’s fate.

“Even while I wanted to become an actor and was doing theatre, my grandmother was worried for me. My dad wanted to be in the film industry and they (family members) would always use him as an example that ‘why do you also want to go there? We have seen it’. They were all scared for me out of love. I keep telling my mother that I wish she (grandmother) was here, I would have given him a great life, and made her see luxury,” said the actor.

Vijay’s next film Family Star is close to release. The film, helmed by his Geetha Govindam director Parasuram, also stars Mrunal Thakur. The Telugu film is slated to release on April 5.
