Despite a hike in ticket prices, the much-anticipated dystopian sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD is off to a flying start with its advance booking. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film has raked in Rs 6.08 crore in advance bookings, selling over 200,000 tickets in India. Starring Prabhas, Kamal Hassan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone, the film is set to release on June 27.

The highest number of tickets sold were for the Telugu language version, with around 1,95,000 tickets sold across 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D formats. The second highest sales were for the Hindi language version, with over 7,000 tickets sold. In the Tamil language, the film sold over 2,000 tickets.

Ahead of its release, the Telangana government approved extra shows and higher ticket prices for the opening week. While fans were excited about the additional shows, they expressed concerns over the price hike. News of a 5:30 AM show on release day in Telangana had initially thrilled fans, but the increased ticket prices for the first eight days (Rs. 70 for single screens and Rs. 100 for multiplexes) caused some discontent.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh recently tweeted about the impressive advance bookings, noting that shows as early as 4:30 AM in Hyderabad have reached full occupancy. “‘KALKI 2898 AD’ ADVANCE BOOKINGS START IN TELANGANA, TAMIL NADU, KARNATAKA… Shows to commence as early as 4.30 am in #Hyderabad, all packed to capacity within minutes… TERRIFIC RESPONSE,” he wrote.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD follows Bhairava (Prabhas), a bounty hunter, and SUM-80 (Deepika Padukone), a pregnant woman on the run, as their paths collide. The narrative weaves together the stories of a vengeful Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) and a power-hungry Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan), all set against a backdrop of a dried-up Ganges, a rebel hideout called Shambala, and the resource-rich Complex.
