Superstar Rajinikanth’s actioner Jailer continues to entertain audiences even in its second week. On its second Saturday, the film clocked a massive collection of Rs 18 crore (nett) at the box office. As per the industry tracker Sacnilk, the growth is around 80 percent from Friday’s numbers, bringing its 10-day collection to Rs 245.9 crore in India.
Jailer had 53.79 percent occupancy in the Tamil-speaking market and 46.73 percent in Telugu. Gadar 2 and OMG 2 continue to dominate the Hindi belt. While Abhishek Bachchan’s Ghoomer was also released this Friday, it saw dismal numbers.
Jailer has also managed to cross Rs 500 crore worldwide. As per industry analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, the Rajinikanth film crossed the big mark on its 10th day of release. It also became the third Tamil film to enter the club after 2.0 and Ponniyin Selvan: I. Jailer is the second-fastest film to cross the Rs 500 mark, after Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar’s 2.0 which earned the big number in just seven days.
The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial also stars Tamannaah Bhatia in a pivotal role and tells the story of a man who is out to avenge his cop son’s death. The film also stars Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff and Shivarajkumar in significant roles. Besides them, the movie also features Priyanka Mohan, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi and Vinayakan.
Pointing out that Rajinikanth and Nelson Dilipkumar rediscover the alchemy of a good masala film, the Indian Express’ Kirubhakar Purushothaman wrote in his review of the film: “Jailer is Rajinikanth’s version of Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, but with a twist. Saying that doesn’t take away anything from this fun-filled entertainer.”

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also attended the special screening. Videos of Rajinikanth bowing to touch Yogi’s feet have gone viral on social media, invoking mixed reaction from fans.
