At the trailer launch of Angry Young Men in Mumbai on Tuesday, Salman Khan shared his favourite dialogue written by his father Salim Khan and his long-time collaborator Javed Akhtar.
Salman, at the event, shared that his favourite dialogue is from 1975 film Deewar and quipped, “Mere paas maa hai,” and added his twist to the dialogue, “…woh bhi do (that too two),” paying homage to his mothers Salma Khan and Helen.
Salman Khan also addressed the “brat” tag that Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar acquired after their collaboration on 24 films, out of which 22 were box office hits. Some of their most successful films are Sholay, Deewar, Sita Aur Gita, Zanjeer, among others.

Salman said, “This ‘brat’ perception comes from the fact that these two people were consistently writing hits, one after another, and eventually had to turn down many producers and actors. Wo waha se aata hai ki ye log apne aap ko samajhate kya hai aur inka dimaag kharab ho gaya hai. Dimaag inka kharab nahi hua tha. Dimaag inka bohot acchi tareeke se chal raha tha kyuki ye hit pe hit diye jaa rahe the (That’s where it arose: “Who do they think they are? They’ve gone crazy. But they hadn’t lost their minds. In fact, their minds were working exceptionally well because they kept delivering hit after hit).”
He also shared that many filmmakers at the time called them “brats” because they couldn’t work with them due to date issues.
The actor added, “Jinke saath ye kaam nahi kar paye kyuki dates nahi milte, plot pasand nahi aaya, shakal aur characters pasand nahi aaye, wo unhone inko tag kar diya ki inka dimaag kharab tha. Lekin actually inka nahi tha, jinhone unko ye bola tha, unka dimaag kharab tha. (Those who couldn’t work with them—whether due to scheduling conflicts, plot disagreements, or issues with appearances and characters—labelled them as crazy. But in reality, it wasn’t them; it was the people who said so who were out of their minds).”
