Veteran actor Meenakshi Seshadri recently reflected on her experiences working with some of the biggest stars from the 80s and 90s in the Hindi film industry. She shared fond memories of Vinod Khanna, describing how comfortable she felt around him, and spoke about the ‘frank’ Rishi Kapoor, who would openly criticize her during scenes, but always with good intentions. Meenakshi also reminisced about her journey from being a schoolgirl admiring Amitabh Bachchan from afar to starring alongside him in Shahenshah.
Meenakshi fondly recalled her time working with Vinod Khanna in films like Satyamev Jayate and Jurm. She shared, “I was very different in his company because he was very different from a typical Bombay hero. He had left all of that for spiritual reasons at the top of his career. When he came back his attitude was very exceptional. I was so much at ease with him that I would look forward to shoot with him so that we could share dirty jokes. I haven’t done this with any other male person I have known in the industry. I trusted him that I am not being judged.”
Reflecting on her work with Rishi Kapoor, Meenakshi mentioned that by the time they shot Damini, she had already starred in a few emotional dramas with him, which put her at ease. She recalled, “Despite coming the legendary Kapoor family and him being talented himself, he was so patient and caring. First day it self I forgot that this is the legend Rishi Kapoor. He is also very frank, he would even tell me that, ‘You are ruining the scene. Don’t do it this way’ and you wouldn’t feel bad because there was no malice there, he was doing it for your betterment. I maintain till date that the awards for Damini might have gone to Sunny but the perform was of Rishi Kapoor.”
Meenakshi shared the screen with Amitabh Bachchan for the first time in the iconic film Shahenshah. During an interaction, she fondly recalled seeing Big B for the first time as a schoolgirl. He was shooting Silsila with Rekha in Delhi when Meenakshi, who was in her school bus, spotted the two stars. The bus driver excitedly followed them and managed to convince them to give the students autographs. However, before they could sign, Yash Chopra, the director of Silsila, arrived and informed Amitabh and Rekha that the shot was ready. Apologizing to the girls, Big B returned to filming. Meenakshi later shared this story with Amitabh on the sets of Shahenshah. She said, “Five years after that incident, it was me, not Rekha, playing his heroine in the film. It felt unbelievable.”
