Shah Rukh Khan King movie: Shah Rukh Khan had a relatively quiet 2024 and 2025 after the historic year that 2023 was for him. Back then, he exploded on the big screen throughout the year after a long sabbatical since 2018 with a hattrick in Siddharth Anand’s spy thriller Pathaan, Atlee’s Jawan, and Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. While Jawan fetched him his biggest hit yet, along with his maiden National Award this year, the streak kicked off with Pathaan, which Anand and his co-writers wrote with Shah Rukh in mind. Now, almost two years after the release of Pathaan, Shah Rukh and Anand are all set to reunite for another massive action crime thriller. After speculation for weeks, they finally revealed the title of their next officially on the occasion of Shah Rukh’s 60th birthday. Both Anand and Shah Rukh took to social media to announce that their next will be titled King, synonymous with the latter’s moniker of ‘King Khan.’
The title reveal video shows Shah Rukh in a brand new avatar. With a short, blonde hairstyle, Shah Rukh is seen decimating one man after another inside what looks like a casino on a ship. His face is revealed along with the film’s title as he holds the king card from a pack of cards between his teeth, with his face smeared in blood. Siddharth Anand promises a “new Shah Rukh Khan experience” in the promo.
Shah Rukh also took to his social media handle to share the title reveal video. He wrote in the caption, “Sau deshon mein badnaam, Duniya ne diya sirf ek hi naam – #KING #KingTitleReveal It’s Showtime! In Cinemas 2026,” announcing that his next will indeed release in cinemas next year. Meanwhile, Siddharth Anand also shared the asset on his X handle with the word, “King.” If one looks closely, he’s been hinting at the film’s title all week, dropping one word every day, prompting users to complete his sentence to guess the film’s title: “Remember there is only one King.”
Co-produced by Shah Rukh and wife Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Jio Studios, King is co-written by Sujoy Ghosh, Sagar Pandya, and Suresh Nair, with dialogues by Abbas Tyrewala. King is touted as a gangster thriller in which Shah Rukh plays a vengeful assassin, while his protégé is played by his real-life daughter Suhana Khan in her big-screen debut.
Khan also shared a poster of the film and wrote, “Darr nahi, Dehshat hoon- #KING #KingTitleReveal is out now. In Cinemas 2026.” Soon after King’s title release, Karan Johar reshared it and wrote, “Is there a word that means “BEYOND BLOCKBUSTER”?? Let’s just settle for JUGGERNAUT!!! This KING is going to RULE!!!” Bipasha Basu wrote, “Wow!!!! Happy birthday @srk Justtttt Fabbbb (clapping emojis) Blockbuster loading.”
King boasts of an ensemble cast which consists of Deepika Padukone, Abhay Verma, Arshad Warsi, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Raghav Juyal. The film is also rumoured to star Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Saurabh Shukla, Akshay Oberoi, and Karanvir Malhotra. King will reunite Shah Rukh and Deepika after hits like Om Shanti Om (2007), Chennai Express (2013), Happy New Year (2014), Pathaan, and Jawan. It’ll also star Abhishek as the chief antagonist.
King would also mark Shah Rukh and Rani’s reunion two decades after memorable films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Veer-Zaara (2004), Chalte Chalte (2003), Paheli (2005), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006). It’ll also mark Anand’s reunion with Rani almost two decades after Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007) and his reunion with Warsi over two decades after Salaam Namaste (2005). Juyal, who broke through with Shah Rukh’s production, Aryan Khan’s directorial debut The Ba***ds of Bollywood on Netflix India earlier this year, also has a key role in King.
The filming of King has been taking place in Poland for the past few months, though details of the project have been kept under wraps. At the Locarno Film Festival earlier this year, Shah Rukh expressed his excitement towards playing an age-appropriate role in the film. He also claimed that he’d loose some weight for his action-oriented part in the upcoming movie.
