Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is enjoying a steady run at the box office.Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat box office collection Day 3: The film earned Rs 6 crore on its third day.

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat box office collection Day 3: Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa’s newly released romantic drama released without much hype but it looks like it has the capacity to compete with the big Bollywood releases of the year. Despite a limited release and minimal promotional push, the film has stunned trade experts with its impressive box office performance. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 6 crore on Day 3, taking its total domestic net collection to Rs 22.75 crore. This achievement is particularly noteworthy given that the movie clashed with one of the year’s most anticipated releases, Ayushmann Khurrana’s Thamma, which has managed to earn only Rs 55.1 crore in the same period despite its star power and significantly wider release.

Dharma Productions’ Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, which released just a few weeks ago with a starry ensemble featuring Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Rohit Saraf and Sanya Malhotra, could only manage to earn Rs 22.25 crore in the first three days. Maddock’s Param Sundari, also starring Janhvi with Sidharth Malhotra, was in the same bracket as it made Rs 26.75 crore in its first three days.

On its third day, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat recorded an overall Hindi occupancy rate of 25.14% (remarkably higher than Thamma, which stood at 19.38%). The day began with a 9.99% occupancy during morning shows, tripled to 27.71% in the afternoon, and further rose to 30.89% and 31.98% in the evening and night shows, respectively. Interestingly, the film is screening in only about 2,400 shows across India (less than half of Thamma’s 5,700) but continues to draw strong audiences. Major metros such as Mumbai (26.50%) and Delhi-NCR (24.75%) have reported healthy occupancy, while Tier-2 cities like Lucknow (37.50% across 102 shows) and Jaipur (31.00% across 85 shows) have performed even better.

Day India Net Collection
Day 1 Rs 9 Cr
Day 2  Rs 7.75 Cr
Day 3  Rs 6 Cr
Total  Rs 22.75 Cr

The film’s three-day total also surpasses several other notable releases of the year. Shahid Kapoor’s Deva managed Rs 19.15 crore in the same period, John Abraham’s The Diplomat earned Rs 13.3 crore, Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi’s Dhadak 2 raked Rs 11.4 crore, and Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency amassed only Rs 10.35 crore over the same time frame.

One key reason behind this film’s success seems to be the growing popularity of Harshvardhan Rane. His 2016 feature, Sanam Teri Kasam, has developed a strong cult following over the years and even outperformed several big titles during its recent re-release. Moreover, there appears to be a largely untapped market for intense, heart-wrenching romantic dramas, which also benefitted Saiyaara recently. With Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, filmmaker Milap Milan Zaveri seems to have struck a chord with this very audience.
