Do Aur Do Pyaar box office collection day 1: Vidya Balan-Pratik Gandhi’s rom-com earns just Rs 50 lakh on opening day

Do Aur Do Pyaar box office collection day 1: Vidya Balan-Pratik Gandhi's romantic comedy can't capitalise on resurgence in romantic comedies.

Vidya Balan and Pratik Gandhi‘s romantic comedy Do Aur Do Pyaar, directed by debutante filmmaker Shirsha Guha Thakurta, debuted in theatres on April 19, at a time when audiences are starved for content. The film also stars Ileana D’Cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy. While the film garnered mainly positive reviews, its performance at the box office has been quite underwhelming.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film, had a limited release on opening day, much like Dibakar Banerjee’s Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2 (LSD 2). Do Aur Do Pyaar earned roughly around Rs 50 lakh at the box office. The film’s release coincided with Cinema Lovers Day and a buy one get one offer on tickets. It also witnessed a poor overall occupancy of 9.10 percent on Friday. In Mumbai, with 244 shows, the film witnessed an occupancy of 13 percent. In Delhi and NCR the occupancy was 7 percent for 323 shows. The highest occupancy of 28 percent was recorded in Chennai where there were only seven shows.

With bigger releases like Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan still running in cinemas, this week’s releases — Do Aur Do Pyaar and LSD 2 — will find it difficult to grow on the weekend.

This is Vidya’s first theatrical release after her 2023 film Neeyat, which also performed poorly at the box office. However it is Pratik Gandhi’s second Hindi theatrical release after Kunal Kemmu’s comedy caper Madgaon Express. Both their performances have been appreciated by critics. The Indian Express’ film critic Shubhra Gupta gave the film a rating of two and a half stars. In her review of Do Aur Do Pyaar, she wrote, “Of the foursome, Balan, who expectedly gets top billing, is all practised ease, breaking out in a climactic slanging match. Ramamurthy and D’ Cruz do their jobs. The real gift is Gandhi, both as the spouse who feels done against, as well as the confused cheat, while also showing some mean moves on the dance floor.”
