This time, the prestigious film festival is celebrating Indian cinema. India has been chosen as the first ‘country of honour’ at Marche du Cinema, and on the opening day, a delegation from India, led by I&B Minister Anurag Thakur, will be walking the red carpet. The delegation includes AR Rahman, Pooja Hegde, Shekhar Kapur, among others.
Earlier, Akshay Kumar was also scheduled to walk the red carpet but the actor was tested positive for Covid-19. He tweeted, “Was really looking forward to rooting for our cinema at the India Pavilion at #Cannes2022, but have sadly tested positive for Covid. Will rest it out. Loads of best wishes to you and your entire team, @ianuragthakur. Will really miss being there.”
This year, six films from India are being screened at the Cannes Film Market. These include – Rocketry – The Nambi Effect (Hindi, English, Tamil), Godavari (Marathi), Alpha Beta Gamma (Hindi), Boomba Ride (Mishing), Dhuin (Maithili) and Niraye Thathakalulla Maram (Malayalam).

Tom Cruise is set to attend Cannes 2022 after 30 years. He will be attending the screening of Top Gun. Sharing a poster of the film, Tamannaah Bhatia expressed how she is excited to meet Tom Cruise in person. "Life is absolutely magical. I remember watching Top Gun as a child and was totally glued to the performances and the action sequences. Today, I am looking forward to being at the Cannes premier of the sequel and meeting Tom Cruise in person," she wrote.

Talking about representing India at Cannes Film Festival 2022, Deepika Padukone said, "It is something I never imagined or expected. 15 years ago, when I made my debut in the industry, nobody had faith in me or my talent. But now, to be part of the jury and actually be experiencing best cinema in the world has been an incredible journey, and I am grateful for that."
Folk singer Mame Khan revealed that he did his first ever show at Cannes around 23 years back. Le Musk is AR Rahman's VR directorial debut. Deepika previously told PTI, "I hope we realise that there is so much more… Of course, fashion is fun, it should be fun. And it’s also a very personal thing. But I hope that Indian media has learned from that last experience and realises that we have the power to actually change that narrative and talk about what a big moment this is for India."
