It was the 25th year celebration of the hit musical Taal and as expected, stories came out tumbling. On the occasion of the anniversary of the 1999 film, a special screening was held which was attended by Subhash Ghai, Anil Kapoor, AR Rahman, producers Ramesh Taurani, Kumar Taurani, Udit Narayan and Shiamak Davar among others.
At the special event hosted by Radio Nasha, Ghai spoke about the music of Taal, which was composed by Rahman, and added, “He was paid minimum fees in Taal!” To which, the composer laughed and added, “Let’s not go there!”
“But everything is not about money. We are celebrating Taal’s 25 years. Money can never buy this!” Bollywood Hungama quoted Ghai, who joked, “Tips will give us a bonus on 25th anniversary of Taal.”
At the event, Anil Kapoor recalled about filming the climax of Taal and revealed how Subhash Ghai would give dialogues at the last moment. “The climax monologue was going to be shot the next day. I told him, ‘I am not coming tomorrow. Aap scene nahin de rahe hai mujhe’ (you are not giving me the scene). He knows me so well that he said ‘Theek hai. Mat aa’ (ok, don’t come).
“I woke up the next day and decided that I’ll not go. But I was worried (how it would seem if I didn’t go for the shoot). I also feared that ‘Kahin scene change kar ke dialogue Akshaye Khanna ko na de de’ (what if he changes the scene and gives my dialogue to Akshaye Khanna). I reached the sets at around 12:30 pm. He was relaxed as he knew I was going to come. Surprisingly, we finished the scene in 2-3 hours,” Kapoor added.
Also starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan–who wasn’t present at the event on Saturday–Taal was a box office hit and continues to be remembered for its music, performances and dance sequences.
