Even before Ranbir Kapoor‘s Animal is released in cinemas on December 1, the crime saga is already creating history at the box office with its advance ticket sales. According to Box Office Worldwide, the film has sold over 1,30,000 tickets already, with 72 hours left till its release, outpacing Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 at the same stage at national cinema chains.
PVR-INOX reported sales of 1,04,000 tickets for Animal, whereas Cinepolis has sold over 24,000 tickets so far. Tiger 3, which was released on November 12, had a grand opening on the occasion of Diwali. But the advances for day one as of Wednesday, November 8, stood at 1,22,000 tickets (PVR-INOX had sold over 1,00,000 tickets and Cinepolis had sold over 22,000 tickets).
Animal is expected to have a massive opening day at the box office, as trade sources are predicting that the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer will mint Rs 50 crore on the day of its release. According to a report in Box Office Worldwide, the response in national chains is very positive as the actor’s fans have been excited to watch him in an intense avatar. Plus, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has established himself as a brand in his own right, with back-to-back hits Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh.
The trade is predicting that Animal will break several records in its theatrical run, and is all set to deliver among the top five biggest advance sales in the history of Hindi movies. Currently, the record is held by Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which sold over 5.57 lakh tickets before its release, followed by Pathaan, which sold over 5.56 lakh tickets. Hrithik Roshan’s War stands at the number three spot, with advance ticket sales of 4.04 lakh, followed by Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan, which sold over 3.46 lakh advance tickets, and Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which saw advance sales of 3.4 lakh tickets.
While the buzz around Animal is big in the Hindi belt, it is also expected to perform well in the South markets, especially in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. To add to the push, the film’s star cast, including Anil Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, along with producer Bhushan Kumar, attended a grand pre-release event in Hyderabad on Monday evening, where they were joined by RRR director SS Rajamouli and Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu.
