Congress MP Shashi Tharoor recently enjoyed quality time off from his busy life by watching The Ba***ds of Bollywood, the directorial debut of Shah Rukh Khan’s elder son Aryan Khan, on Netflix India. He heaped praises on the show on X, claiming it’s “OTT gold” and “one of the best things” he has ever treated himself to.
Trolls were quick to question Tharoor’s authenticity as one of them commented on his long tweet, “Shashi Tharoor new side business _Paid reviews!!” Tharoor responded to the tweet a day later and wrote, “I’m not for sale, my friend. No opinion I express has ever been paid for by anybody, in cash or in kind.” He also disabled the comment section of his reply, avoiding any more exchanges with the troll.
Tharoor took to his X handle on Sunday and revealed that since he’s battling cold and cough, which forced him to cancel all his engagements for two days. He was recommended The Ba***ds of Bollywood by his staff and his sister and motivational speaker Smita Tharoor. “I’m left grasping for words of praise. It takes time to grow on you, but then you’re irresistibly hooked,” wrote Tharoor.
“The writing is sharp, the direction is fearless, and the sheer audacity of this satire is just what Bollywood needed. A genius, often hilarious, sometimes moving, and always unflinching look beyond the glamour, sending up every cinematic cliche with razor-like wit — and a series of insider jokes that let the audience into the act & behind the scenes,” he added.
He then lauded Aryan and congratulated Shah Rukh. “The seven compelling episodes mark the arrival of a true storytelling powerhouse. Take a bow, Aryan Khan—you’ve delivered a masterpiece: “TheBa***dsOfBollywood” is brilliant,” wrote Tharoor, adding, “@iamsrk: from one father to another, let me say: you must be so proud!!”
While Shah Rukh is yet to respond to Tharoor’s wishes, it was only a couple of months ago that they shared a memorable exchange on X. Tharoor congratulated Shah Rukh on winning the National Award for Best Actor for Atlee’s 2023 blockbuster action thriller Jawan by tweeting, “A National Treasure wins a National Award! Congratulations @iamsrk!”
Shah Rukh responded to Tharoor’s wish with his signature wit and charm. “Thank u for the simple praise Mr Tharoor… would not have understood something more magniloquent and sesquipedalian… ha ha,” he wrote, taking a dig at Tharoor’s infamous tendency to use complex words in his routine conversations in person and on social media.

Tharoor has never shied away from giving shoutouts to Shah Rukh on X. Back in 2019, Tharoor shared a picture of him with a cutout of Shah Rukh and revealed that the room in a Munnar hotel that he’s staying in is dedicated to the superstar since the latter stayed there while filming Rohit Shetty’s 2013 hit romantic comedy Chennai Express.
