Vijay Deverakonda is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming romantic comedy Kushi, where he will be sharing the screen with Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Helmed by Shiva Nirvana, recognised for movies like Ninnu Kori and Majili, Kushi is set to premiere on September 1.

This film holds particular importance for Deverakonda, as his recent movies did not perform well at the box office. Even his much-anticipated sports action film Liger, directed by Puri Jagannadh, faced failure, leading to criticism of his project choices.

The Geetha Govindam actor, nevertheless, recently emphasised that he continues to stand by all the films he chose to be a part of. He explained that while the scripts were excellent, the execution fell short of expectations.

“I know people won’t accept this statement, but honestly, I believe every script that I’ve chosen was terrific. It was the execution that didn’t go as planned. For instance, an inside joke between friends wouldn’t translate well to others if the delivery and timing weren’t on point. That’s exactly what happened with films like Liger, NOTA, and even Dear Comrade,” he said during a conversation with Cinema Express.

“I might have done things differently, for sure, including different strategies for promotions. Every story I picked could have been huge, but it just didn’t happen,” he added.

“With every film I do, there’s a sense of emotional pressure because those who believe in my cinema want me to succeed. Of course, there’s the pressure of business too. I own a theatre and I know how the success or failure of films affects the ecosystem,” he noted.

Vijay Deverakonda says he’s always been an admirer of Samantha Ruth Prabhu

Expressing confidence in Kushi and heaping praise on his co-star Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Vijay Deverakonda remarked, “I used to be a fan of Samantha, and I’ve always admired her as an actor. From there to creating a film together, it was an amazing experience. We know what she went through during the shoot. She has been a solid partner throughout this journey, and I’ve grown really fond of her as a person too.”

While Deverakonda initially debuted with the romantic comedy Nuvvila in 2011, his true breakthrough as a lead came in Tharun Bhascker’s Pelli Choopulu (2016), which achieved tremendous success. Despite facing disappointment with his subsequent film Dwaraka, Deverakonda’s following project Arjun Reddy emerged as a trailblazer, despite its problematic narrative.
