Actors Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda are now officially engaged, as per a confirmation shared by Vijay’s team to SCREEN on Saturday. While the couple is yet to share photos from the ceremony, sources suggest the engagement took place at Vijay’s residence in Hyderabad in an intimate setting, attended only by close family members.
Rumours about the duo’s relationship first began in 2018, after they starred together in the hit romantic drama Geetha Govindam. At the time, Rashmika was engaged to her Kirik Party co-star Rakshit Shetty. However, their engagement was called off just a month after the release of Geetha Govindam. Rashmika and Rakshit got engaged in July 2017.
Rashmika and Vijay’s on-screen chemistry in Geetha Govindam made them an instant fan-favourite pair. Their on-screen chemistry even sparked dating rumours. This also led to their reunion for a second film, Dear Comrade, in 2019.
Though neither Rashmika nor Vijay ever publicly confirmed their relationship, observant fans frequently spotted the two vacationing in the same locations, often around New Year’s and noted similarities in their individual photos, leading many to believe they were a couple. Despite the constant speculation, the actors maintained their silence on the matter.
After years of keeping their private lives under wraps, both Rashmika and Vijay later acknowledged they were not single, though they refrained from naming their partners.
Previously, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Vijay Deverakonda stated: “I am 35 and I am not single.”
Meanwhile Rashmika Mandanna indirectly confirmed her relationship at an event in Chennai while promoting her film Pushpa 2. When the host asked whether her partner is from the film industry, she quipped: “Everyone already knows all of these things.”
Later, the couple was also spotted together at several public events, including the 43rd India Day Parade in New York and the Bharat Beyond Borders event.
According to recent reports, the couple is now planning a destination wedding, likely to take place in February.
On the work front, Rashmika Mandanna is gearing up for the release of Ayushmaan Khurrana-starrer film Thamma. Meanwhile, Vijay was last seen in the film Kingdom, which was a box office disaster.
