Kiran Abbavaram says not easy for Telugu films to get screens in Tamil Nadu, unlike acceptance Tamil actors get in Andhra and Telangana: ‘Pradeep Ranganathan has secured…’

Telugu actor Kiran Abbavaram claimed that actors from his industry don't receive as much love and acceptance in Tamil Nadu as their counterparts from TN do in the Telugu territories.

Unlike in previous years, 2025 has so far been a rollercoaster ride for both the Telugu and Tamil film industries, with several highly anticipated movies underperforming. Amidst the ongoing struggles, a new blame game has ensued, exacerbating the situation. The controversy erupted after young Telugu actor Kiran Abbavaram claimed that actors from his industry don’t receive as much love and acceptance in Tamil Nadu as their counterparts from TN do in the Telugu territories.

He compared his struggles to secure screens for his upcoming film, K-Ramp, in Tamil Nadu with the already scheduled wide release of Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude in the Telugu states. “I saw Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra in its second week in Hyderabad — full shows, great reception. But imagine if a Telugu film were released in Tamil Nadu; would it get the same love,” he asked in conversation with Galatta Plus. Pointing out that Tamil actors like Vijay, Dhanush, Suriya and Sivakarthikeyan enjoy strong markets in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, he claimed that the same isn’t true for Telugu actors in Tamil Nadu.

“My only concern is that even Telugu heroes are making good content. But it’s not rolling there like how we are watching. People say it will be watched if the content is great. But young Telugu heroes are also making great content. Almost ten Tamil heroes have a prominent market in Telugu now. No young Telugu hero has the same in Tamil,” he said.

“Now I want to release K-Ramp in Tamil theatres, as Pradeep Ranganathan has secured theatres in Telugu for his film. I also wanted my film to be released there in that way. But I know I won’t get it. Now, when I say this, everyone will discuss logistics, stardom, and other related topics. I can’t say it’s a mafia, it’s just a business. We just want the same kind of love we are giving. I hope I get it at least for Chennai Love Story (his next movie after K-Ramp),” Kiran added.

Dude’s producer reacts to Kiran Abbavaram’s comments

Kiran Abbavaram’s comments soon went viral, with netizens debating whether there is any inequity in how Telugu and other-language films are allotted screens in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, Dude’s producer, Y Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers, also weighed in on the topic when asked about the process of screen sharing at times when several movies hit theatres together, particularly during festival seasons. “Diwali is the biggest festival in Tamil Nadu, and they have 700-800 theatres at best. In comparison, Telugu states have around 1800. So naturally, when all big films release on a festive occasion, each film only gets a certain number of screens,” he reportedly said at Dude’s trailer launch on Thursday.

“Even if a film gets few screens initially, the number of screens keeps getting adjusted depending on word-of-mouth, and keeps getting shifted from one film to another. You give the best content, and hit content, and you can take the screens. Whatever film is good will get maximum screens. Nobody needs to worry about it. Dude is an extraordinary, blockbuster-level film. But if a film is better than this, we are most welcoming and will have no problem allotting our screen share to that film,” he added.

While Dude hits the screens on October 17, K-Ramp will release a day later on October 18.
