Actor Teja Sajja’s mythological film Hanu Man, which is garnering positive word of mouth, is minting money at the box office after a slow start. A pan-Indian film can be a daunting responsibility for a young actor like Teja, but he decided to trust the process and his director Prasanth Varma.
In an interview with indianexpress.com, when asked if he ever felt intimidated by the responsibility of the film, Teja replied, “No, never. We have always thought about our culture, and our roots. Sitting back in Hyderabad, we have always wanted to make a Telugu film. After releasing the content, even if it’s a Telugu film, we wanted it to look as grand as possible for our audience.”
While Hanu Man had an opening of Rs 8 crore, Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram earned Rs 41.3 crore on Day 1. However, tables turned over the weekend as the Prasanth Varma directorial picked pace and by its fifth day, the film raced past Guntur Kaaram in terms of daily box office collection. The domestic collection of Hanu Man stands at Rs 68 crore.
Teja Sajja also said he always trusted Prasanth Varma, who is the writer and director of the film.
“When we released our content, we realised that we were sitting on something that caters to not only our nation but also across other nations where Hanuman ji’s bhakts (devotees) are there. So, that is when it started growing bigger and bigger. Initially, we had not planned anything as we didn’t expect this reception. So we have just been honest about what Prasanth Garu has written,” he said.
Hanu Man has released not only in India, but also in markets like Japan and Korea.
