With just days left for the release of Suriya’s upcoming film, Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the makers hosted a special pre-release event in Hyderabad. Actor Vijay Deverakonda was the chief guest at the event where he spoke about Suriya, and the impact of his films on his life and career. However, what really caught attention was Deverakonda’s response to going ‘retro,’ going back in time, and meeting someone.

“I want to meet the British when they were ruling us, and give them a couple of tight slaps,” said Deverakonda, who pointed out that he developed immense anger when he saw Vicky Kaushal-Rashmika Mandanna’s blockbuster, Chhaava. “I was very angry after watching the film. In fact, I’d probably go back in time, and give him a couple of slaps too. I can’t think of anyone nice to meet. There is just so much anger, and I want to meet all of them, and hit them straight,” said the actor, who will next be seen in Gowtam Tinnanuri’s Kingdom.
Vijay Deverakonda also took the stage to talk about the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Expressing his solidarity, he said, “I just want to tell all the families who lost their loved ones… that we are all thinking of you. We can’t even come close to the pain that they are feeling, but we are all pained and angry. We stand in support of you.”
Later, when talking about how Suriya inspired him to take up education of the underprivileged as a cause, Deverakonda, once again touched upon the attack. “Education teaches you a lot. Even in Kashmir, proper education is the only way out of some people being brainwashed by nefarious agenda. Kashmir is India. Kashmiris are Indians,” said Deverakonda, who also said there is no point talking about a war with Pakistan simply because their own people are finding it difficult to stay in the country due to depleted resources and economic status.
“We should stand united as people, love each other, and move forward,” said Deverakonda, who also reminisced the time he spent in Kashmir during the shoot of his 2024 film, Kushi, co-starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu. “Two years ago, I shot for Kushi in Kashmir. I have such good memories.”
Retro, which is set to hit the screens on May 1, will clash at the Telugu box office with Nani’s much-awaited explosive action film, HIT: The Third Case, and at the Hindi box-office with Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2.
