Vidya Balan says she wanted to dance on ‘Aaj rapat’ with Amitabh Bachchan but ended up playing his mother in Paa: ‘Khwaish adhuri reh gayi…’

Recalling the 2009 filming of R Balki’s Paa, Vidya Balan shared: “While shooting Paa, there’s a scene where Bachchan sir, I and Abhishek do the monkey dance in the rains. I thought, ‘I want to dance to ‘Aaj rapat jaye to hame na uthaiyo,’ but I’m playing your mother, doing the monkey dance instead…khwaish adhuri reh gayi sir (My wish remained unfulfilled, sir).”

Amitabh Bachchan, charmed by Vidya Balan’s sentiment, invited her to dance on stage. Together, they recreated the iconic steps of “Aaj Rapat Jaye To Hame Na Uthaiyo”, spreading warmth and nostalgia. Vidya stunned in a printed black sari, while Amitabh exuded elegance in a black suit. See the video here:
