Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar’s 2011 television show Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was a major hit on Sony TV. However, an intimate scene featuring the two lead actors, garnered a lot of attention. This was hyped as the ‘first kissing scene’ on television and now, in a recent interview, actor Ram Kapoor opened up about the making of the scene and what went behind the scenes.
During a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, the actor shared that show’s producer Ekta Kapoor ‘had to apologise’ for the scene. He said, “Ekta had to apologise, I never did. My job as an actor was only to act. I don’t owe any explanations to anybody. As a professional, I signed the dotted line and took money from the producers. My work is to follow the script. The kissing scene was in the script, I can’t say no to it, then I am not an actor, I am only a star who throws tantrums. I did nothing wrong.”
Ram further added that he confirmed with Ekta twice, but she was pretty confident about it. “Ekta is the one who wrote the scene and wanted us to do it. I told Ekta, ‘Are you sure that you want to do this on television?’ We were the first kiss of television, no one had ever done it, it was a big thing. Three generations watch it together – your in laws, husband, and children. But, Ekta was very confident that we had to do it and she trusted us, so I said okay. I firstly wanted to get a go ahead from my wife, she said that it’s up to me,” he revealed.

The actor also revealed talking to Sakshi’s father before going ahead with the scene. He said, “Then, I told Sakshi, ‘I will handle Ekta, if you have a problem, you tell me’. I can never think of getting romantically involved with my co-stars because they are on a different level for me. Sakshi’s father called me and said the most amazing thing to me. He said, ‘Ram, tu hai toh sab theek hai (If you are there, then it’s fine)’ and Sakshi was also okay with it. So, they trusted me.”
“We shot that scene for two full nights. Whatever uproar happened after that, Ekta had to face it. It wasn’t our idea, it was her idea and we just followed it. Sakshi and I were never awkward with each other despite that. We have a tremendous amount of respect for each other, we have another level of bond,” Ram concluded.
Soon after Ram’s interview, Ekta shared a message on social media and netizens implied that it was meant for Ram. “Unprofessional actors giving interviews about my shows shud shut up! False information N skewed stories. Can only last till. I talk’…… but there is dignity in silence,” she wrote.
