Judged by Vikas Khanna, Ranveer Brar and Garima Arora, MasterChef India launched in January. The show recently met with criticism after viewers felt the judges were biased toward a select few contestants. In one instance, Aruna Vijay, who’s a vegetarian, was given the liberty to cook with paneer while others had to cook mutton during a challenge. Viewers also called out how judges favoured her and appreciated her dishes while picking on others like Priyanka Biswas Kundu. They also called out judges for pushing the emotional angle when it comes to Kamaldeep Kaur, tagging her as the ‘mumma’ in the show.
Coming to Nayanjyoti Saikia, the 26-year-old from Tinsukia, Assam is a self-trained cook. He was discovered by chef Vikas Khanna through Instagram. While his father was reluctant to let him pursue cooking, the Michelin Star awardee chef managed to convince him. On MasterChef, Nayanjyoti has had a journey of himself, where he performed extremely well during some challenges, while was in the bottom in a few.
