For reasons unknown, Trisha, who celebrates her birthday today, and Vijay stopped collaborating after the film Kuruvi (2008), which marked their fourth collaboration. It took them 15 years to team up again in Leo. However, after Leo, Vijay and Trisha fans didn’t have to wait too long. The re-release of Ghilli, which has surpassed the box office collection of many recent releases, turned out to be the perfect entertainer for the dry season of Tamil cinema. As the rage for Ghilli is still steady on social media, here’s a look at an old interview of Vijay and Trisha by Anu Haasan for her popular show Coffee With Anu.
Watching the interview, it feels surreal that Vijay was a hero who was accessible and a person who used to grace such talk shows. In recent years, the actor has reached a place in Tamil cinema that’s unparalleled. Many viral videos from his visit to Kerala will give a clue to his current larger-than-life image. However, in the interview, Vijay comes across as a shy and silent man who struggles to find the right words. When Trisha joins the discussion, his shyness increases multifold which is adorable to look at.
However, Trisha had a problem with the very nature of Vijay. During the interview, Trisha revealed, “At the shooting spot, when everyone is having a good time, he goes and sits in a corner and looks at the wall for hours. He is always calm and doesn’t talk much on the sets.” Vijay protested feebly saying, “I think about the scene unlike all of you. I care about the scene.”
Later, during the rapid-fire round, Trisha gets asked about one quality she hates about Vijay that she thinks has to be changed. Trisha said, “His silence. I understand he is that kind of a person, but sometimes it feels like he is inaccessible and makes the other person wonder if they have done something wrong. He needs to be a bit more accessible.” In response, Vijay… observed her in silence!
The conversation also brought out an interesting revelation about Trisha and how she won the Miss Chennai title when she was studying in 11th standard. Anu claimed that Trisha’s answer to a question was the prime reason for her to win the award. “They asked me what is the one quality that I don’t have. And I said, ‘Honesty.’ We all tell a lot of white lies. I meant it in that way,” Trisha said.
While Vijay and Trisha fans agree that they are the best pair, the talk show also revealed that Vijay has the same opinion. When asked to choose the best pair among Vijay-Asin, Vijay-Nayanthara, and Vijay-Trisha, ‘Thalapathy’ chose the last option and said, “Many have told it. And I think that’s true.” Trisha remarked, “He chose the safe answer.”
It is unclear if fans will get to see Trisha and Vijay again together on the silver screen as the Master actor has said that he will be giving up films for his political aspirations. He is currently shooting for the film The Greatest of All Time. However, there is a hope that Vijay might act in one more film before calling it quits. On the other hand, Trisha’s career graph has yet again risen with the actor being part of many big projects, including Ajith’s Vidaamuyarchi, Chiranjeevi’s Viswambara, and Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life.
