The Kalaimamani awards, which are considered to be the highest civilian honor in the state of Tamil Nadu, were announced recently for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023. According to Times of India reports, actors like Sai Pallavi, S.J. Suryah, K Manikandan, Vikram Prabhu, Jaya V.C. Guganathan, and George Maryan are among the winners. The list, which was released on Wednesday, also featured various other artists falling under different arts and backgrounds, who are all being honored for their contributions to Tamil Nadu’s cultural heritage.

According to reports from The Hindu, other than the actors, the various technicians and above-the-line film workers who have been named in the winners list include music director Anirudh Ravichandar, Filmmaker N Linguswamy, Art director J.K. alias M. Jayakumar, stunt master ‘Super’ Subbarayan. In addition, artists like playback singer Shweta Mohan, and choreographer ‘Sandy’ alias A. Santhosh Kumar have also been named winners for the aforementioned years for their contributions to their respective fields.

Among the 90 artists whose names have been put out as winners, also included, author N. Murugesa Pandian for the Bharathiar Award for literature. Legendary singer K J Yesudas has been named for the M.S. Subbulakshmi Award for Music, and Padma Shri Muthukannammal has been named for the Balasaraswathi Award for Dance, among others. Many other categories, like best association and drama troupe categories, have been awarded to Tamil Isai Sangam in Chennai (Raja Annamalai Mandram) and Kalaimamani’ M.R. Muthusamy Memorial Drama Troupe, respectively.

These awards are handed by the Tamil Nadu ‘Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram'(literature, music, and theatre), a unit of the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu. These names highlight the cream of the top-most performing talent from the state during the speculated time period, who have made invaluable contributions to the betterment of their respective fields. According to The Hindu, the awards will be given away in an official function to be presided over by Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin this October.
