GOAT box office collection Day 8: The Vijay-starrer The Greatest of All Time, aka GOAT, has been in the theatres for eight days now, but it looks like the film has not been able to hold the momentum it had during the first weekend. GOAT opened at Rs 44 crore on day one, but on the eighth day of its release, the film collected Rs 6.5 crore in total across the country. Tamil films of his nature are usually front-loaded, but GOAT’s fall-off has been massive. So far, the film has collected Rs 177.75 crore in India, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.

GOAT witnessed an overall Tamil occupancy of 24.15 percent on Thursday. In Chennai, where the film had 800 shows, the occupancy was seen at around 36 percent. The film also released in the Telugu and Hindi languages. In Hyderabad, the film had 235 shows in Telugu but the occupancy was observed at only 13.75 percent.

GOAT is set to surpass the collection of Vijay’s 2023 film Varisu today. Varisu made Rs 178.14 crore in India and grossed Rs 297.55 crore worldwide. The film clashed against Ajith-starrer Thunivu, which made Rs 121.87 crore, and grossed Rs 200 crore worldwide.

GOAT was hyped as Vijay’s penultimate film before his entry into politics. But the interest hasn’t translated into the sort of numbers that the producers would’ve liked, given this was one of the last few chances for fans to catch Vijay on the big screen. Last year, Vijay was seen in Varisu and Leo, and while Varisu’s numbers suffered because of a clash with Thunivu, Leo dominated at the box office for a few weeks. The film made Rs 341 crore in India and became one of the biggest hits of the year. It also grossed Rs 606 crore worldwide.

GOAT has become the biggest Tamil hit of the year, but mainly because the industry hasn’t had a notable hit so far. Kamal Hassan’s Indian 2 tanked with Rs 81.3 crore nett in India and Rs 148.8 crore worldwide. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, GOAT stars Vijay in a double role as father and son. The film also stars Prashanth, Sneha, Mohan, Prabhu Deva and features Trisha Krishnan in a special appearance.
