Following the success of director Arun Matheswaran’s Captain Miller earlier this year, actor Dhanush is set for a comeback with the film Raayan, which he has helmed as well besides playing the titular character. Touted as an action thriller, the film’s makers had unveiled its trailer last Tuesday, offering glimpses of Dhanush’s powerful and intense avatar.

On Sunday, ahead of the film’s premiere this week, Team Raayan held a pre-release event in Hyderabad, Telangana, which was attended by the cast and crew. Dhanush took the gathering by storm with his words on multiple occasions during the event and also sang a song for his fans.

During the event, the anchor asked Dhanush which Telugu actor he would like to co-star with in a multi-starrer, giving options like Mahesh Babu, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Jr (NTR Jr), Ram Charan and Allu Arjun. After thinking for a second or two, the National Award-winning actor chose Tarak, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

When asked about his favourite hero in Telugu cinema, Dhanush hesitated but then answered with a smile, “I will answer, but other fans, don’t hate me.” He added, “I love cinema and I love Pawan Kalyan sir,” which again delighted the audience. Dhanush also sang the song “Water Packet” from Raayan, crafted by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman.

Also starring SJ Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Selvaraghavan, Prakash Raj, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in key roles, Raayan is Dhanush’s sophomore directorial venture and will hit the screens on July 26.

Meanwhile, during the event, actor Prakash Raj revealed that Dhanush’s next directorial project will star himself and Nithya Menen. The trio previously collaborated on the romantic comedy-drama Thiruchitrambalam. Prakash Raj also praised Dhanush for his talents as both an actor and filmmaker.
