Composer AR Rahman has announced the release date of Maamannan’s trailer, starring Udhayanidhi Stalin and Vadivelu. Rahman, the composer of the film, took to Twitter to share the new update. The poster features Udhayanidhi Stalin running along with a pack of dogs. The dogs belong to the indigenous breed sighthound that belongs to Tamil Nadu. Maari Selvaraj’s first film, Pariyerum Perumal featured a dog from the same breed, which played a vital symbolism in the film. Looks like the director is turning it into a recurring motif in his films. The poster also has Vadivelu’s face in the background.

Maamannan has Vadivelu in a lead role, and unlike his other films, here the veteran comedy actor is playing a sombre role. Talking about his character, Maari Selvaraj said that it was inspired by Esaki from Kamal Haasan’s Thevar Magan. “What if Esaki becomes a king? That’s how I have imagined this character.” In Thevar Magan, Esaki (Vadivelu) is a servant and family friend of Periya Thevar (Sivaji Ganesan). He loses his right hand when he helps Shakti (Kamal Haasan) in opening a disputed temple.

Maamannan also has Keerthy Suresh and Fahadh Faasil in the lead roles. The film follows the stories of these four characters. It is expected that Fahadh will be playing the antagonist in the film. The release date of the film is yet to be announced, and it might be unveiled along with the trailer.
