Eyeing Rana Daggubati’s success in Baahubali and his growing fame in Tollywood, Hindi producer-director Karan Johar clinched the distribution rights of Rana’s next outing, Ghazi.

The Hindi-Telugu bilingual movie starring Taapsee Pannua and Rana is slated for release on February 24 next year. “After the grand success of S S Rajamouli’s directorial Baahubali, producer-director Karan Johar has started investing more in the south, and up next is Rana Daggubati and Taapsee Pannu starrer Ghazi, and he has recently bagged the Hindi distribution rights for the film,” revealed an industry source.

More from the world of Entertainment:

The film is said to be based on the mysterious sinking of PNS Ghazi, a Pakistan submarine during the Indo-Pak 1971 war. It is about an executive naval officer and his team who had remained underwater for 18 days.

Rana will be seen playing the Navy office and Taapsee, who will be playing female lead opposite Rana, will be seen as a refugee in the film. The film is currently in the post-production phase.

Ghazi will be another Tollywood movie with the war backdrop after the recent National Award-winning movie Kanche, which is based on Nazi forces in World War II.

The film will be directed by debutant Sankalp Reddy and it is said to be partially based on his own book, Blue Fish.

Rana had earlier said that the movie will be a new domain for him to work in. “Pushing my experimental envelope towards mainstream cinema yet again!! #GHAZI (Hindi-Telugu bi-lingual) begins filming today!!,” Rana tweeted in January.
