Charithra Chandran and Sendhil Ramamurthy join One Piece Season 2

Netflix has dropped the first look for One Piece season 2 alongside confirming a renewal for season 3. The announcement was made during One Piece’s annual festival in Tokyo, held to honour Eiichiro Oda’s globally acclaimed manga. This time, Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail into the dangerous waters of the Grand Line on a hunt for the mysterious Gold Roger’s (Michael Dorman) treasure. Slated for a 2026 release, season 2 will introduce new faces, including two Indian-origin stars. Here’s everything you need to know about the cast.

Who is Charithra Chandran in One Piece season 2?

One Piece season 2 has roped in Indian-British actor Charithra Chandran to play one of the central characters, Miss Wednesday. Netflix fans will remember her as Edwina Sharma from the hit regency-era series Bridgerton, led by Simone Ashley (Kate Sharma) and Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton). Charithra has also appeared in the Amazon spy series Alex Rider, along with projects like How to Date Billy Walsh and Marvel’s Eternals.

Charithra was born in Perth, Scotland. Her parents, who belong to Tamil Nadu, India, are both medical professionals. When Charithra was just 2 years old, her parents separated, and she came to India to be with her father and grandparents. When she was four, she returned to the UK. As she turned 11, she started living with her mother. After completing her studies at Oxford High School, she went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and started pursuing her career in acting at a very young age after joining the National Youth Theatre.

Who is Sendhil Ramamurthy in One Piece season 2?

Sendhil Ramamurthy is the newest addition to One Piece. The Heroes alumnus has been roped in to play Nefertari Cobra in season 2 of the live-action show. Known for his role as Dr. Mohinder Suresh in Heroes and Heroes Reborn, he’s a familiar face to audiences. His film credits include Blind Dating, Little India, Shor in the City, Ellen Caulty, and more. Nefertari Cobra is the King of Alabasta and father to Nefertari Vivi in the original manga. A ruler who stays on the right side, his character is known for being an extremely compassionate leader who cares for his kingdom above all else. For those unaware, the Nefertari family is one of the 20 founding families of the World Government in the anime.

Born in Chicago, Ramamurthy’s family are Indian immigrants. His parents, both belonging to South India, from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, are physicians. Ramamurthy has one sibling who is also a physician. He became a member of the Kappa Charge of Theta Delta Chi and developed an interest in acting after participating in various theatrical plays. On Netflix, he appeared in the fan-favourite show Never Have I Ever as Mohan Vishwakumar. Though his role was brief, he remained one of the most important characters.

The official synopsis of season 2 reads, “Netflix’s epic high-seas pirate adventure, ‘One Piece,’ returns for Season 2—unleashing fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet. Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line—a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure, they’ll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.”

Some of the new characters in season 2 are Katey Sagal, Mark Harelik, Daniel Lasker, Camrus Johnson, Jazzara Jaslyn, David Dastmalchian, Werner Coetser, Brendan Murray, Clive Russell, Callum Kerr, Julia Rehwald, Rob Colletti, Ty Keogh.
