War 2 Box Office Collection day 5: Ayan Mukerji’s spy thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, has flunked the crucial Monday test. The film slipped down to single digits at the domestic box office on its first Monday, witnessing a drastic fall from its Sunday (day 4) earnings of Rs 32.15 crore, almost four times than what it made on day 5.

War 2 box office collection India

On Monday, War 2 collected merely Rs 8.50 crore across all three languages — the original Hindi version and the dubbed Telugu and Tamil versions. The decline had started on Saturday (day 3) itself when the film earned Rs 33.25 crore as compared to its highest single-day collection of Rs 57.35 crore on Friday (day 2) on the occasion of Independence Day.

War 2 opened at Rs 52 crore, which is less than the opening day figure of its first part, Siddharth Anand’s War (2019), that collected Rs 53.35 crore in India. The spike in numbers thanks to Independence Day did help War 2 to surpass its predecessor’s trajectory at the box office. In five days, it’s earned Rs 183.25 crore in India. However, as per makers, War 2 has grossed Rs 196.5 crore with Rs 137.50 crore from Hindi and Rs 59 crore from Telugu version.

While the Hindi version continues to reserve the lion’s share, it’s followed by the Telugu version, thanks to the presence of RRR and Devara star Jr NTR. The Tamil version remains abysmal, still not able to earn over Rs 1 crore on any given day yet. Given the drastic fall on Monday, it seems like a while before War 2 can breach the Rs 200 crore mark in India.

War 2 vs 2025’s big releases

However, a day after surpassing Aamir Khan’s coming-of-age sports comedy Sitaare Zameen Par (Rs 166.58 crore), War 2 has now beaten the lifetime domestic earnings of Raj Kumar Gupta’s crime thriller Raid 2, starring Ajay Devgn, which amassed Rs 179.30 crore earlier this year. Its next goal is to edge past the lifetime domestic earnings of Akshay Kumar’s whodunit comedy Housefull 5 (Rs 198.41 crore) and Ashwin Kumar’s mythological animated film Mahavatar Narsimha (Rs 209.56 crore).

War 2 is still the lowest performing film in Aditya Chopra’s ambitious YRF Spy Universe. It’s yet to beat the lifetime domestic earnings of the universe opener — Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif-starrer Ek Tha Tiger (2012) at Rs 198.78 crore. It’s also running behind the lifetime domestic box office collections of Mukerji’s previous two directorials — Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) at Rs 208 crore and Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022) at Rs 307.01 crore.

War 2 has a tall order to live up to as it follows Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), Pathaan (2023), and Tiger 3 (2023), all of which were massive hits. While Hrithik and Ashutosh Rana reprise their roles from the first part of War in the sequel, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani, and Anil Kapoor are the new entrants. Backed by Yash Raj Films, War marks Mukerji’s first directorial stint outside of his home turf, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The next instalment of the YRF Spy Universe, Alia Bhatt-starrer Alpha, is slated to release in cinemas this Christmas on December 25.
