After sending shock waves across the nation with his highly controversial film The Kashmir Files, director Vivek Agnihotri is set to return with a new film titled The Vaccine War, based on India’s process of crafting a successful Covid-19 vaccine.
The makers unveiled a teaser of the movie on Tuesday, marking the celebration of India’s 77th Independence Day, providing a sneak peek into the film’s world. Agnihotri also announced the movie’s release date, which will coincide with a highly anticipated big-budget pan-Indian movie.
The brief 29-second teaser that Agnihotri posted on social media provides a glimpse of the activities of scientists involved with the BBV152 vaccine, also known as Covaxin, developed by Bharat Biotech in partnership with the Indian Council of Medical Research – National Institute of Virology.
According to the makers, TVW will narrate the tale of the triumph of scientists and 130 crore people who fought the battle in the Covid-19 era. Set to a gripping musical backdrop, the teaser depicts scientists working in incredibly stressful conditions due to the elevated level of stakes involved.
As the teaser has finally been unveiled it opens up with a sight of a highly techno-enhanced lab where the vaccine is been prepared. Then in another glance, it captures the team of scientists walking toward the elevator illustrating a major yet covert progress in the development of vaccines. As the team enters the elevator and turns back, the teaser unveils the first look at Pallavi Joshi playing the character of a scientist, and her assistants.
Meanwhile, the makers also revealed that the film, touted as India’s inaugural Bio-Science cinematic endeavour, is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 28, 2023. This will lead to a significant clash with Prashanth Neel’s upcoming action thriller film Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, featuring Prabhas in the lead role.
Penned by Agnihotri himself, TVW, bankrolled by his wife and actor Pallavi Joshi, stars Anupam Kher, Nana Patekar, Raima Sen, Pallavi Joshi and Sapthami Gowda in key roles.
Recently, Agnihotri had conducted a public survey on Twitter, offering two alternatives for the release date of TVW. He asked his followers to pick between the two options. The first choice proposed releasing TVW simultaneously with the highly awaited movie Salaar, while the second option aligned with the crucial India vs Pakistan cricket match. The Vaccine War is also going to be the official and first film that will be released in 10 different languages on the big screen.
“The Vaccine War is a very special film that will narrate the real story of the vaccine war that our country fought together against the hazardous COVID-19 virus. As the teaser captured some essential moments from the film, we are eagerly excited to present the film to the globe and show the glory proudly of our country,” Pallavi Joshi said.
In a recent conversation with Hindustan Times, Agnihotri noted that the earnings from TKF, which he and his wife Pallavi Joshi accrued, were channelled into the production of TVW. “Whatever money I earned, I put into my next film which is The Vaccine War and I am bankrupt as usual. Pallavi and I were discussing that we are broke again. So for the next film, the struggle begins again.”
