Stree 2 box office collection day 6: Filmmaker Amar Kaushik’s horror comedy is refusing to slow down at the box office after a blockbuster first few days. The film recorded strong collections on Tuesday, which happened to be its first working day of release after the long holiday weekend. Stree 2 has now crossed Rs 250 cr at the box office, comfortably zooming past the lifetime collections of biggies such as Ajay Devgn-led Drishyam 2 and Brahmastra, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
Accoring to industry tracker Sacnilk, Stree 2 witnessed a drop of merely 35 percent from Monday and netted an impressive Rs 25 cr on Tuesday– which is bigger than the opening day of Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter and Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD’s Hindi version. The total domestic collections of the film, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, now stand at Rs 254.55 cr. Globally, the film has passed the Rs 350 crore mark.
With this, Stree 2 has now overtaken Drishyam 2 (Rs 240 cr) and Brahmastra (Hindi), which had netted Rs 247 cr in 2022. Stree 2 was released on August 15 along with two other releases, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa, impacting its showcasing on the first two days.
With the other two releases failing to put up a decent score, Stree 2 emerged as the top preference of the movie goers and gradually witnessed its showcasing being increased over the weekend, trade sources said. Stree 2 will now enjoy an open run as no other major film is set to hit the screens.
The next Hindi film lined up for release is Kangana Ranaut-led Emergency, on September 6 followed by Kareena Kapoor-starrer The Buckingham Murders on September 13. It’s only on October 2 when Alia Bhatt will arrive with her actioner Jigraa, produced by Karan Johar.
With a clear run ahead, Stree 2 is likely to cross the Rs 400 cr mark in its second week and begin its journey to enter the Rs 500 cr club, which so far has movies like Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (Rs 584cr), Gadar2 (Rs 525cr), Pathaan (Rs 524 cr), Baahubali2 (Rs 511cr) and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, which ended its Hindi run at Rs 505cr.
