Shah Rukh Khan received his first-ever National Award on Tuesday at the 71st National Awards 2025. The actor won the Best Actor National Award for his film Jawan, marking a historic moment in his 33-year-long movie career. Shah Rukh Khan shared his award with Vikrant Massey, who won the Best Actor award for 12th Fail. Along with Shah Rukh and Vikrant, Rani Mukerji won the Best Actress Award for her powerful performance in the film Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.
Shah Rukh got on the stage amid loud cheers as he received the National Award from President Droupadi Murmu. The actor also addressed the crowd with a namaste before taking the award. He looked dapper in a black and white outfit. Jawan was one of the biggest blockbusters of recent times, earning Rs 1,160 crore worldwide. The film was directed by Atlee and produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment.
Vikrant was called on the stage shortly afterwards. He bowed down as he recieved the award. His film, 12th Fail, was one of the most appreciated films of the year. 12th Fail, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, also won the Best Feature Film award.
Rani Mukerji, who looked beautiful in a saree, also received her award from President Droupadi Murmu. Rani was recognised for her powerful performance as she essayed the role of Sagarika Chakraborty, whose heartbreaking fight for her children’s custody in Norway moved audiences deeply.
Earlier, Shah Rukh had expressed gratitude over winning the prestigious award. In August, when the winners of the 71st National Awards were announced, the actor shared a video on social media where he thanked his team and family, while also calling the win a responsibility. “A National Award is not just an achievement. It’s a reminder that what I do matters. It tells me to keep going, keep working hard, keep creating and keep serving cinema,” he had said in the clip.
Other winners of the National Awards included Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail, which took home the Best Feature Film Award, while comedy Kathal – A Jackfruit Mystery was named Best Hindi Film. Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was awarded in the Best Wholesome Entertainment category.
