Actor R Madhavan recently opened up about sharing the screen with Ajay Devgn in Shaitaan, along with Jyothika. He said that he’s “learned a lot from Ajay sir” in the four months of shooting for the Vikas Bahl directorial.
“I have never worked with a co-star like Ajay (Devgn) sir in my life,” Madhavan told Curly Tales. Then opening up about how Ajay, even after being the producer of Shaitaan, decided not to take up a “meatier” role in the supernatural thriller. He said, “Because the level of generosity, his supreme confidence in himself and the product and his absolute generous nature is something I have learnt so much from in the last four months. He is the producer of the film. He could have taken the meatier, the more author backed role. He could have made sure that his heroism was the one that shone through the film.”
Madhavan then expressed his gratitude towards Ajay because before acting in the film, he thought he was the “negative lead”. He said, “He is a producer, he sat on the edit, we didn’t have the name of the film while we were filming it. We were wondering which is the best title. And they come up with the title Shaitaan and make me the shaitaan. I thought I was playing the negative lead in the film and I was prepared for enjoying myself while doing that, I didn’t know it was such an author backed role and an author backed publicity as well. The teaser and the trailer is all about the shaitaan.”
Madhavan said that an actor has to be”extremely confident” in their skin and secure to let another actor shine in their film. “You have to be supremely in love with your job and extremely confident in your skin to be able to do that for another actor. I am eternally… I mean I have never meant thank you as much as I say thank you to Ajay sir for this. My wife says, ‘tera baap yeh tere liye nahi karega’ (even your father wouldn’t do this much for you). Although dad would have but it’s just a figure of speech.”
Ajay and R Madhavan’s Shaitaan released in cinemas on March 8. The film opened to mixed reviews but went on to rake in around Rs 150 crore at the box office during its theatrical run in India and crossed the Rs 200 crore mark globally, making it the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2024.
