Disgraced actor Nana Patekar, who recently made a comeback to films after being accused of sexual misconduct during the #MeToo movement in India, was caught on camera smacking a fan on the head. A video being circulated online shows a fan approaching the actor for a selfie, and getting hit on the head and dragged away. Nana Patekar is reportedly shooting in Varanasi.
The short video, which has been shared on X, Instagram and Reddit, shows the actor on set, surrounded by a crowd of people. A man in a T-shirt approaches him from behind, with a phone held out. Noticing him approaching, Nana Patekar doesn’t hold back and hits him on the head with visible force. The man stumbles forward, and is grabbed by another man, presumably a security official. The second man grabs the fan by his neck, and drags him away from the actor and out of frame.
“Poor kid,” one person wrote in response to the video on Reddit. “That was too hard,” wrote another person. “Galat baat (that was wrong),” wrote a third person on X. A few days ago, the actor had shared pictures on Instagram announcing the start of production on the film Journey, director Anil Sharma’s follow-up to his smash hit Gadar 2. Journey will also star Utkarsh Sharma.
After the video went viral, Nana Patekar issued an apology and called the incident a “misunderstanding.” He issued a clarification on social media and said, “The video which is circulating on social media has been misinterpreted by many. What actually happened was a misunderstanding during the rehearsal of a shot from my upcoming film Journey.”
Nana Patekar was last seen in the film The Vaccine War, director Vivek Agnihotri’s follow-up to his smash hit The Kashmir Files. The film tanked at the box office. It marked the actor’s first theatrical release since 2018, when he appeared as a villain in the Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala. He then starred in a couple of streaming releases, one of which co-starred Taapsee Pannu. The actor’s career derailed after he was accused of sexual misconduct by Tanushree Dutta. An FIR was filed against him in 2018; but the investigation ended a year later after the Oshiwara police suggested that complaints against him could have been malicious in intent.
