Mukesh Khanna has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his recent comments on Sonakshi Sinha’s upbringing, stating that he had no malicious intention to malign her or her father, veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha. Khanna’s comments had sparked a heated debate, with Sonakshi and her father responding to his remarks.
In a recent interview with News9, Khanna explained that his comment was not made with any wrong intent. “I am surprised she took so much time to react. I knew I was antagonising her by taking her name from that incident in the famous Kaun Banega Crorepati show. But I had no malicious intention to malign her or her father who is my senior and I have a very cordial relationship with him,” he said.
Khanna further explained that he used Sonakshi Sinha’s example to convey a lesson to the younger generation, emphasising the importance of knowledge and being aware of their roots. “My intention was to react to today’s generation, which is called Gen Z by elders, which has become slaves to today’s Google world and mobile phones. Their knowledge is limited to Wikipedia and social interactions on YouTube. And here I had a ‘Hi-Fi’ case in front of me of her which I could use to teach others. Fathers, sons, daughters,” he stated.
Khanna concluded that given the vast and rich knowledge preserved in India’s culture, ‘Sanskriti’, and history is something every young person today should be aware of and take pride in. His comments had sparked a controversy, with Sonakshi and her father responding to his remarks. In a previous interview, Khanna had blamed Shatrughan Sinha for not educating Sonakshi about the Ramayana, referencing a moment from Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) 11 where Sonakshi was unable to answer a question related to the Ramayana.
Shatrughan too had come to his daughter’s defence and responded sharply to Khanna’s comments on his daughter’s upbringing. Reacting to Mukesh’s statements, Shatrughan told Bollywood Hungama, “I believe someone has a problem with Sonakshi not answering a question on the Ramayan. Firstly what qualifies this person to be an expert on all things to do with the Ramayan? And who has appointed him the guardian of the Hindu religion?”
