Madhuri Dixit says sons don’t have to be actors, can be YouTubers like Dr Shriram Nene: ‘My husband is amazing’

Madhuri Dixit called husband Dr Sriram Nene 'amazing and tech savvy' and is doing extremely well on YouTube. She says sons Arin and Ryan can follow his footsteps and become content creators.

Madhuri Dixit broke a million hearts when she got married at the peak of her career in 1999 and relocated to Denver in the US, where her husband, Shriram Nene, worked as a cardiac surgeon. However, once she moved back with her family to her homeland, it’s her husband who’s enjoyed a career in public life in recent years, thanks to YouTube.

“My husband is so tech savvy, he’s amazing. He’s done a lot of YouTube, where he’s talking about health, different things you can do to protect yourself from different diseases, giving information about diet and wellness. He does extremely well. People want to watch that because they want to learn,” says Madhuri in the latest edition of Creator X Creator on SCREEN.

“When that face is so familiar, you feel a sort of relatability and connect to the person who’s talking. So, they listen to you. It’s fun,” adds Madhuri. She doesn’t feel that in the process, her husband is putting too much of her family out there in the public. “People want to listen to your experiences and see your learnings so that they can learn from it. That’s what YouTube is all about,” she argues.

Madhuri believes that unlike when you’re in a film or a show, where you have to play a character, YouTubers can afford to be themselves because that’s what the audience relates to on that platform. In fact, she had no qualms with doing an intergenerational group podcast with herself and Nene, their kids Arin and Ryan, and her in-laws on her husband’s YouTube channel.

“We had a little session with the grandparents on their journeys, and how our kids take inspiration and learn from them,” says Madhuri, adding, “When the kids went to college, we did a podcast on what their experience was by the mid-term and what they’re feeling like. Before they went to college, we did a little session on how they can be independent. We taught them the basics of cooking, like eggs and pasta, so that they can take care of that front.”

Madhuri is amazed that her sons Arin and Ryan are so comfortable on camera and feel so comfortable in their skin at the age of 22 and 20, respectively. “It’s a different medium altogether, even from Instagram or Twitter. It’s wonderful to see how kids are so confident when they talk. They’re very sure of their choices in life and what they’re talking about. We learn so much from them every day of our lives. They don’t have to be like a star or anything. They can be their own people on YouTube. That’s amazing,” says Madhuri.
