‘Ibrahim Ali Khan is grounded, hardworking but not a fantastic dancer; Sara Ali Khan would wake me up at 4 am for rehearsals’: Nadaaniyan choreographer

In the interview to Mid-Day, he had similar thoughts for Ibrahim’s elder sister Sara, whom he choreographed in the popular song Chaka Chak in Aanand L Rai’s Atrangi Re (2021). “Sara would wake me up in Goa at 4 am to rehearse. She is transparent and has no filters. Sometimes we have to tell her to calm down,” said Vijay, who’s also choreographing her for Anurag Basu’s upcoming romantic anthology Metro In Dino.

While Vijay hasn’t choreographed Sara’s mother Amrita, he worked with her as a child artist in a small role in Saheb. He recalled meeting her more recently on the sets of Laxman Utekar’s 2023 romantic comedy Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, which starred Sara. She recognised Vijay as the one who choreographed her daughter in “Chaka Chak”. As far as Saif is concerned, Vijay first choreographed him for an award ceremony a long time ago. Vijay claimed that the actor has come a long way since then. “Saif has improved overtime. He will joke about things (but still) learn his steps.”

Saif married Amrita in 1991 and they split up in 2004. They continue to co-parent Sara and Ibrahim. Saif subsequently tied the knot with his Tashan co-star Kareena Kapoor in 2012. They have two sons — Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan aka Jeh.

On the work front, Saif will be next seen in Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins, which will release directly on Netflix India. Sara will star in Metro In Dino and an action comedy opposite Ayushmann Khurrana, co-produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment. Meanwhile, Ibrahim will also star in a Dharma Productions film, directed by Boman Irani’s son Kayoze Irani, and  also starring Kajol and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
