Varun Dhawan, John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez’s Dishoom is spreading good cheer at the box office. The action comedy opened on 3000 screens and reported about 40 percent occupancy on Friday when it opened. The movie’s first-day box office collection was over Rs 11 crore. On day two the film earned Rs 12.02 cr. making the total collection of the film Rs 23.07 cr.
What is working in Dishoom’s favour is that it faces hardly any competition at the box office. The film is also the sixth-best box office opener of 2016. Salman Khan’s Sultan and Rajinikanth’s Kabali have already run out of steam. With no other release this weekend, Dishoom is getting all the eyeballs.
While the Rohit Dhawan directorial got mixed reviews at the box office, its mix of action and comedy is attracting both young and family audience. Both John Abraham and Varun Dhawan have their fan base and Akshay Kumar’s cameo is working in Dishoom’s favour.
The film is likely to earn more than Rs 30 crore during its opening weekend. Dishoom also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Nargis Fakhri. Parineeti Chopra appears in a special dance number, ‘Jaaneman aah’.
Other than Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi which opened marginally better than Dishoom, the other big openers of 2016 were Sultan, Fan, Airlift and Housefull 3. They were all bigger films in terms of scale and star cast as well. (Dishoom box office collection day 1: Varun Dhawan, John Abraham film mints Rs. 11.05 cr)
