As the hit film Chennai Express completed a decade today, Deepika Padukone, who played the lead role in the movie, and husband Ranveer Singh joined in the celebration with a throwback video. The actor shared a hilarious old video with Ranveer and wrote a special note to celebrate 10 years of her film.
The clip features Ranveer in his bald look from his film Bajirao Mastani (2015), where Deepika also played a pivotal role. In the hilarious video, Ranveer and Deepika enact a funny scene between her character Meenama and Shah Rukh Khan’s character Rahul in Chennai Express. Ranveer playfully recites SRK’s famous line, “Aee Meenama meri dictionary mein ‘impossible’ shabd he nahi hain,” to which Deepika responds with her signature accent from the film, “Aacha. Kaha se kharede ye bakwas dictionary.”
Sharing the endearing video, Deepika Padukone also penned an emotional note about her experience working on Chennai Express. She wrote, “They say that comedy is the most difficult genre for an actor. So when I was offered Chennai Express, I knew I had a daunting challenge ahead of me. And while it took me a little while to find Meenama, a process that is extremely lonely and often times frightening, I’m grateful that we were able to create a character that is not only synonymous with the movie, but also one that continues to receive an abundance of love till this date.”
Directed by Rohit Shetty, Chennai Express revolved around the story of two strangers who meet under chaotic circumstances. Deepika portrays a runaway bride, while Shah Rukh Khan’s character embarks on a journey to immerse his late grandfather’s ashes at Rameshwaram. The film was widely praised for its comic brilliance and went on to become a massive box office success.
