Chhaava: After Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna impresses fans as Aurangzeb

Alongside Vicky Kaushal, the film stars Akshaye Khanna as the ruthless king and Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale.

A fan felt that Akshaye ‘looks like Amitabh Bachchan’ and wrote, “Why did he give me Amitabh Bachchan vibes at first glance?,” another posted, “He’s looking incredible!” A user also posted, “He looks convincing.”

Chhaava also stars Ashutosh Rana as Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite, Divya Dutta as Soyarabai, Neil Bhoopalam as Muhammad Akbar Mughal prince, Santosh Juvekar and Pradeep Rawat as Yesaji Kank among others.

The makers described Chhaava as a “stirring tale of the courageous warrior whose coronation in 1681 marked the beginning of a legendary reign.” The film is an adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant.

The stars are all set to play some historic veterans on the big screen and here are some information about their characters:

Vicky Kaushal as Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj

Also known as Shambhuraje, Vicky will be playing the role of the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire, who ruled from 1681 to 1689. He was the eldest son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and also the founder of the Maratha Kingdom. It is said that Sambhaji’s rule was largely shaped by the ongoing wars between the Marathas and the Mughal Empire, and also some other neighbouring powers. Vicky Kaushal underwent rigorous training in sword fighting, horse riding, and shooting for the role.

Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale

Rashmika will be playing the wife of Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who was also referred to as Chatrapati Maharani of the Maratha Kingdom. She stepped in to take important political decisions when needed.

Akshaye Khanna as Emperor Aurangzeb

He was the sixth Mughal emperor and reigned from 1658 until his death in 1707. Aurangzeb was the longest reigning Mughal Emperor and his empire was also one of the largest in Indian history. Under his reign, the Mughal Empire reached its greatest extent, with territory spanning nearly the entirety of the Indian subcontinent. He is often portrayed as the catalyst for demise of the empire.

Ashutosh Rana as Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite

This character was a prominent Maratha general who has the esteemed position of the 5th Senapati of the Maratha Army during the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He was recognized for his exceptional military prowess and successfully led various campaigns on behalf of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He subsequently continuing his service under Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

Divya Dutta as Soyarabai

She was second wife of Shivaji Maharaj, who was the founder of Maratha empire in western India. Soyarabai was mother of Shivaji Maharaj’s second son, Rajaram and the younger sister of Maratha army chief Hambirrao Mohite.

Neil Bhoopalam as Muhammad Akbar

The character was a Mughal prince and the fourth son of Emperor Aurangzeb and his chief consort Dilras Banu Begum. He went into exile in Safavid Persia after a failed rebellion against his father in the Deccan.

Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Chhaava will be released on February 14, 2025.
