While Coldplay’s concerts in India have been making headlines over the past few weeks for their spectacular performances and for setting a new record as India’s largest concert ever—with 1.34 lakh people in attendance at their Ahmedabad show—indie-pop band Cigarettes After Sex didn’t have the same experience. Recently, the band had to cancel their Bengaluru concert, citing local production issues. They shared a note on Instagram announcing the cancellation and apologized to their fans.
In their statement, Cigarettes After Sex explained that the cancellation was due to local production issues beyond their control. Their note read, “We’re heartbroken to announce that due to technical difficulties which were the responsibility of local production at the venue & beyond our control, we’re unable to perform & unfortunately have to cancel tonight’s show in Bengaluru. We’re so incredibly sorry we can’t see you all tonight & truly tried everything we could to make it happen (sic), their statement read.
They, however, promised to offer refunds to those who have bought tickets. “BookMyShow will reach out to you with information on refunds for the show as well. love you so much…,” they added.
Many fans expressed their disappointment in the comments section, comparing the band’s bitter experience in Bengaluru to Coldplay’s seamless and successful concert in Ahmedabad. One fan wrote,, “Sad.. next time shift your venue to the place which manage well like in Ahmedabad.” Another fan wrote, “Sorry to say Ahmedabad is better.” One more fan wrote, “This is seriously so negligible on your part as well as the “local production”. Yall never think of the fans who are standing and waiting and buying your tickets much in advance just to see a glimpse of you.”
Cigarettes After Sex canceling their Bengaluru gig reminded fans of another similar incident in September 2023, when comedian Trevor Noah had to cancel his show in Bengaluru due to severe acoustics and sound system failures.
